Our Practice
Sound Clinical Medicine is an independent family practice dedicated to providing high quality, comprehensive and compassionate primary care to individuals and families in the South Sound area. Dr. Michael Wingren founded the practice and serves as the full-time Medical Director. Julia Cathcart-Chang, PA-C sees patients five days per week. We offer nearly all primary care services, except the delivery and care of babies and toddlers. We have outfitted the clinic with modern diagnostic testing equipment, and have established referral relationships with local X-ray and other diagnostic centers that provide high quality and low cost imaging results, such as CTs and MRIs. Our goal is to get to "diagnostic certainty" as rapidly and cost-effectively as possible. We provide expert care of 90% of presenting complaints, and provide targeted referrals for the 10% of disease states that are best managed by specialists.
We are an independent alternative to large hospital/clinic networks because we want to work solely for our patient's best interest. We refer you to whichever specialist we believe will provide you with the best care and best outcome. Many of our patients appreciate that they can be referred by our practitioners to specialists in competing hospital networks, and we will coordinate their care across their chosen group of specialists.
We also do a wide variety of skin surgeries, orthopedic joint injections, pain management, and psychiatric medicine management, which are uncommon services in primary care clinics today. We provide a minimally-invasive procedure for reducing migraine headaches, which has been found to be effective. We see Labor and Industries occupational medicine patients, motor vehicle accident victims, and other personal injury patients. We are certified to provide Commercial Driver's License exams. In short, we are here to serve all of your primary health care needs, and to help coordinate your specialty care, whether you go to your local hospital, or to other specialty providers throughout the region.

January 2017
Dr. Wingren offers a low risk, simple in-office procedure for treating chronic migraine headaches. The patented SphenoCath is a flexible catheter used to apply a local anaesthetic to an area of nerve cells at the back of the nose, called the sphenopalatine ganglion. This "re-sets" the nerve impulses, often resulting in relief from headaches.
Flu Shots Available
We offer flu shots every year. The science of flu shot production is changing. There is now a type of flu shot that is made without contact with eggs. The article below was written a few years ago, and it is still valid advice to talk with your doctor if you are allergic to eggs.
September 2015
We are offering Flu shots. Flu shots are recommended (by CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices) for everyone 6 months and older. Vaccination to prevent influenza is particularly important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from influenza.
However, people with certain conditions should talk to the doctor before getting the Flu shot. If you have an allergy to eggs or any of the ingredients in the vaccine, talk to your doctor about your allergy. If you ever had Guillain-Barré Syndrome (a severe paralyzing illness, also called GBS), talk to your doctor about your GBS history. If you are not feeling well, talk to your doctor about your symptoms.
People with severe, life-threatening allergies to flu vaccine or any ingredient in the vaccine, including gelatin, antibiotics, or other ingredients, should not get the Flu shot.
